Der 1971 eingeführte Laser 4.7 ist auf junge und leichtgewichtige Seglerinnen und Segler (50 bis 65 kg) ausgerichtet und wird auch als Zwischenstufe zwischen dem Optimisten und dem Laser Standard oder Radial gesegelt.

Landesjugendmeisterschaften werden auch auf dem ILCA 4 ausgesegelt, und seit einigen Jahren ist der ILCA 4 im Programm der Kieler Woche vertreten und es finden seit 2011 Internationale Deutsche Meisterschaften statt.
